The Lady Panthers of Miami Trace hosted the visiting Waverly Tigers on Monday for their senior night game and festivities. In what was a very physical and intense game with several stoppages for injuries throughout the game for both teams, Miami Trace prevailed, 3-2.

Senior Jana Griffith got the scoring started for the Lady Panthers with about 30 minutes to go in the first half.

Waverly quickly responded with a goal of their own to tie the score. They followed up with another goal shortly after to take the lead of the Lady Panthers, 2-1. This was the halftime score.

The score remained 2-1 for about half of the second half, before a foul was called on the Lady Tigers inside the goalie box, resulting in a penalty kick.

This sent freshman Hailey Webster to the line, who drilled the ball into the top left corner of the net to tie the game at two.

The next 15 minutes were very intense as both teams traded unsuccessful shots on goal.

That drought ended with 3:09 remaining in the contest, as Griffith outran the Waverly defense and knocked one past the Lady Tigers goalkeeper to regain the lead for the Lady Panthers.

The Miami Trace defense held tough over the last three minutes of the contest, securing a 3-2 victory on senior night.

Statistically for the Lady Panthers, Griffith scored two goals and Webster scored one.

Griffith led the team with six shots on goal, followed by Hannah Houck with four, Webster with three, and Isabelle DeBruin and Katherine Hynes each had one.

Hynes and Houck each had one assist.

At goalkeeper, Gabriella Miller had nine saves.

This victory brings their record to 5-9-1, while Waverly falls to 4-7-2. The Lady Panthers are seeded 11th in the upcoming Division II SE District Tournament, while the Lady Tigers are seeded 12th.

The final regular season contest for the Lady Panthers will be on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. at home against Zane Trace (5-7). The Lady Pioneers are the 10 seed in the Division III SE District Tournament.

As previously reported, Miami Trace will travel to take on sixth-seeded Athens (8-5) in the first round of the postseason on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
