October has brought autumn temperatures to Fayette County and autumn programs to the library. Among our many events, be sure to fly over to the Bats and Books Storybook Trail Oct. 15 at the City Farm outside the YMCA, create a Monster Craft in the children’s department beginning Oct. 17, and Trick or Treat at our Halloween preschool storytime Oct. 27.
For this week, we have a number exciting events planned, however, the library will be closed Monday, Oct. 10 for Columbus Day.
Families of preschoolers, join us for weekly storytimes in Jeffersonville and Washington Court House. Our storytime programs feature a new theme each week, and incorporate stories, songs, crafts, play, and are for children ages 5 and younger. With an emphasis on early literacy, our librarians help nurture your child’s love of books and reading. Each Tuesday at 11 a.m., Bonnie’s Books takes place at Jeffersonville United Methodist Church, then each Thursday at 11 a.m., Hello, Friends! takes place in Washington Court House at the library.
Meet Libby. Our Tech Tutor, Kaitlin, will teach patrons how to get the best out of the Libby app, including how to use their free accounts to check out eBooks from the Ohio Digital Library. Wednesday Oct. 12 at 11.
On Thursday, Oct. 13 at 11, preschoolers and their families are invited to Hello Friends Fire Safety Storytime. Hear from real firefighters how to be safe and help our heroes protect us.
Friday, Oct. 14, please join us for our first annual plant swap. Bring any extra seedlings, seeds, divided perennials, houseplants, and volunteers you want to share and find something new to add to your own garden. We will meet in the library garden or library meeting room in the event of inclement weather.
Carnegie Public Library is partnering with Fayette Soil and Water and Altrusa to host a Bat Storybook Trail and program at the City Farm. Meet us at the trail in front of the YMCA for bat books, bat crafts, bat games, and even a BB-gun range. The book trail will be open to visit between 1 and 4 and is for all ages.
Sign up your little one for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) literacy program. At this time, more than 1,000 Fayette County children are receiving free books through the mail with this amazing program. This program provides an age appropriate book once a month for all children from birth to a child’s 5th birthday. If a child is registered at birth, by their 5th birthday, the child would own 60 books in his or her personal library. You can register your child online at imaginationlibrary.com, or by picking up a paper application at the Carnegie Public Library, Help Me Grow, Fayette County Public Health, Pregnancy Life Center, Early Head Start, or United Way of Fayette County. The program is made possible thanks to a partnership with United Way of Fayette County and Carnegie Public Library. All books are free and you can register today.
