One killed in accident on US 62

One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on US 62 North between State Route 38 and State Route 753, according to authorities.

At approximately 4:36 p.m., Christopher Stinespring, 48, of Madison, Ohio, was driving a 2013 GMC pickup northeast on US 62 north of State Route 753. Russell Goodman, 41, of Hamilton, Ohio, was driving a 2016 Volvo tractor trailer southwest on US 62.

According to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), Stinespring’s vehicle went left of center and struck the left side of the Volvo semi. Both vehicles traveled off of the roadway following impact.

Stinespring was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the OSHP. Goodman and his passenger received minor injuries.

Stinespring was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, according to OSHP.

An investigation into the accident kept US 62 between State Route 38 and State Route 753 closed for an extended period of time. The Emergency Management Agency arrived on the scene to access a fuel spill resulting from the collision, according to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, it was reported that the road had been cleared and reopened.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington Court House Fire Department, Fayette County EMS, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
