Week 3 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Patience can pay off

After a wild slate of Sunday games in Week 2, here is my first Waiver Wire report for Week 3.

In Fantasy Football waivers for most leagues run on Tuesday Night (Wednesday Morning). Picking up players on waivers is designed for you to replace players on your roster that may have been injured or picking up players that your other league mates may need and can’t get because you picked them up. With that being said, here is a list of players that you should be looking at for Week 3.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo (49ers) (4% Rostered on Yahoo)

2nd year QB Trey Lance (ankle) is probably out for the rest of the season. The belief was that the 49ers restructured Jimmy G’s contract and brought him back because they questioned whether or not Lance was the answer. Now bringing Jimmy back has paid off. If you were a Trey Lance truther you need to run to the waiver wire and grab Jimmy Garoppolo. He won’t be flashy, but he will be a good fantasy QB.

WR Garrett Wilson (Jets) (22% Rostered on Yahoo)

The rookie from Ohio State has been a favorite target for QB Joe Flacco. He has averaged 11 targets per game and put up 102 yards and 2 TDs this week against Cleveland. He has established himself as the #1 WR on the Jets, hopefully that continues when QB Zach Wilson comes back in Week 4 from a knee injury.

RB Eno Benjamin (Cardinals) (11% Rostered on Yahoo)

RB James Conner went out in the game with an ankle injury. If he misses time (ankles are usually 2-4 weeks), I think Eno Benjamin becomes the lead back. The other option if you miss on Eno Benjamin is Darrel Williams (4% Rostered on Yahoo)

RB Raheem Mostert (Dolphins) (43% Rostered on Yahoo)

He went from the second RB on this team in Week 1 to the lead in Week 2. This is a shared backfield with Chase Edmonds but Mostert is clearly a part of it. He can definitely be utilized as flex option and a clear RB2 if he takes over this backfield.

QB Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins) (62% Rostered on Yahoo)

The Dolphins are 2-0 and Tua has thrown 83 passes in two weeks. If you need a QB, you lost Lance, and Dak, or you have Matt Ryan and want at least a streaming option, you could do worse than Tua Tagovailoa.

WR Jahan Dotson (Commanders) (43% Rostered on Yahoo)

He made the list last week. If he is still on the list that means he is still available in most leagues. He has been targeted 5 times each game in the first two weeks and scored 3 TDs. As long as he’s putting up 18 points per game, he is no worse than a flex option.

WR Curtis Samuel (Commanders) (70%) Rostered on Yahoo)

11 targets Week 1, 9 targets Week 2. He is the team leader and as long as he is the team leader, he needs to be owned and started. He played with head coach Ron Rivera in Carolina but was never healthy to live up to his potential and Rivera brought him to Washington, and he is healthy.

WR Noah Brown (Cowboys) (2% Rostered on Yahoo)

Has a connection with QB Cooper Rush. 5 receptions for 91 yards for 1 TD are pretty good numbers. He has been the No. 2 target both games this season. As long as Michael Gallup is out, Brown has a chance to grow into a role as the #2 and maybe a role after Gallup comes back.

RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (49ers) (74% Rostered on Yahoo)

Number 1 waiver wire pickup last week and is now 74% rostered. He had 18 carries in Week 2 and established himself as the lead back for now.

RB Tyrion Davis-Price (49ers) (8% Rostered on Yahoo)

The rookie had 14 carries and is clearly the current No. 2 RB on this 49ers team. Unless something changes or something happens to Jeff Wilson, he won’t have any value and can’t be played but he is the handcuff to own.

RB Mark Ingram (Saints) (30% Rostered on Yahoo)

He is the handcuff of RB Alvin Kamara. He was the lead back in Week 2 and carried the ball 10 times for 60 yards. He might not get an opportunity to start in Week 3 if Kamara comes back, but he needs to be owned as the direct handcuff.

WR Josh Palmer (Chargers) (27% Rostered on Yahoo)

He caught 4 of 8 targets for 30 yards and a TD on Thursday in replacement of Keenan Allen. No Allen (hamstring) should be back in Week 3. Even if Allen comes back, Palmer needs to be owned. He will get targets in 3 WR sets, but Allen and Mike Williams both have injury histories and when they go down, Palmer will step up as a Flex Option.

RB Tyler Allgeier (Falcons) (14% Rostered on Yahoo)

The Falcons put RB Damien Williams on short-term IR and that opened the door for the rookie RB from BYU to get an opportunity. He had as many snaps (10) as the starter Cordarrelle Patterson. The opportunity is there for Allgeier to take over this backfield. Stash him on your bench and be patient.

TE Tyler Conklin (Jets) (3% Rostered on Yahoo)

16 targets in two games and one TD. Not spectacular numbers but if you need 8-10 points from a TE, then Conklin is your man. If you need a TE, pick him up and put him in your lineup.

Here are some other players to look at on waivers:

Jaylen Warren (16%) – Handcuff to Najee Harris

Jamaal Williams (58%) – Handcuff to D’Andre Swift

Samaje Perrine (6%)

Dontrell Hilliard (21%)
