The second half of May is a time of anticipation for library staff as we are dotting the i’s, crossing the t’s, and finalizing every detail of the Summer Reading Program.
Carnegie Public Library is offering four reading programs: one for pre-reading children, one for children who read, one for teens, and one for adults.
For all four programs, simply enter a reading challenge using our Beanstack app or webpage, log your reading, and win prizes! We hope this program is encouraging for reluctant readers, exciting for those who love to read, and fun for all. Registration for the reading programs began May 20, and will remain open through July. The Children’s department will host more than 50 programs for children of all ages this summer. Please check out our website, social media, or visit the library for the complete list.
Some of the programs we are excited about are our STEM Camps. While children are often interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, they always have room to expand their knowledge. STEM camp will include science demonstrations ranging from chemistry to astronomy to circuitry and will also include a week-long Lego design project.
STEM camp will take place mornings June 6, 7, 8, 9 and is for ages 8-12.
STEM camp Jr. will be June 27, 28, 29, 30 and is for ages 5-8. Both camps require registration at the library and attendance is limited.
In partnership with Fayette County Farm Bureau, Carnegie Public Library in Washington Court House is offering “Storytime with a Farmer” during the month of May. These storytimes on Thursdays May 5, 12, 19, and 26 feature local farmers and agricultural leaders as guest readers during our “Hello, Friends” timeslot. For the May 26 presentation, in addition to the storytime, children will tour the library garden and help to plant the new wildflower bed! The fun begins at 11 a.m. in the library’s meeting room.
Remember, every Tuesday at 11 a.m., Bonnie’s Books storytime takes place at Jeffersonville United Methodist Church!
On Friday, May 27 at 11 a.m., adults are invited to a special plant program with Stacey Wilt of Patchwork Gardens: “Thinking Outside the Box with Annuals and Perennials.”
On Saturday, June 4 at 10 a.m., for adults interested in our city’s history, Laurann Perrill will present a talk entitled “Fayette Theater- A Theater of Distinction” about the once-popular local cinema.
Check out the library’s 24/7 lockers! When you use the lockers, you can pick-up library materials any time of day. When placing a hold through the SEO libraries App, or through the online library catalog, you may now select “WASHINGTON COURTHOUSE 24/7 PICKUP LOCKERS” as your pick-up location. Library staff will notify you via email when the items are available, and in which locker number your items are located. Check out library social media for more details, or ask a librarian today.
In coordination with the Village of Jeffersonville, plans are in the works to install Carnegie Public Library Pick-up Lockers and book return in Jeffersonville! All lockers are paid in part by Federal Coronavirus Relief Funds, and provide contactless service to patrons any time of day.
