From now through Sunday, April 3, local youths are being encouraged to help clean up their communities and take pride in where they live.
According to local Steven Armstrong, this is the second time the project has been held.
“I decided to do this program because it is embarrassing to see all of the trash along the roads in our area,” explained Armstrong.
Each kid ages 14 and under that picks up a bag of trash is asked to post a picture of it on the event Facebook page — they will then receive a gift certificate for a free one topping pizza from Supersport Pizza.

Also, every kid that participates will be entered into drawings for giveaways such as Reds tickets, COSI tickets, etc.
“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to take part, but the free pizza and drawing for giveaways are just for kids 14 and under,” wrote Armstrong via email. “(We’re) doing (this project) now because the weather is breaking, and everyone is ready to get back outside, and the area really needs cleaned up after the long winter that we had.”
The Facebook event page is titled, “Fayette County Cleanup 2022,” and was created by Armstrong.
“The last time we did this project, the kids really took a lot of pride in the work they did. Many of them went back again to their areas and picked up more trash later in the year. I often heard of kids scolding people that littered as well,” he explained. “I would just encourage parents and school organizations to get their kids out and give something back to the community. The kids truly do enjoy being a part of these community projects and maybe, with the adults seeing these kids out there doing this work, maybe they will think twice before littering in the future. We live in a beautiful area, we need to take pride in it.”
