How do you get the joy back?

0

Have you ever bought something, and it brought you joy? But pretty soon the newness would wear off and then it wouldn’t mean as much to you? I am sure that you have. Many have experienced this type of thing whether it be a new house, new job, new car, or yes, even a new church.

Well, the question arises, “How do you get the joy back?” Let me give you what I believe to be the answer. First, real joy is not found in things. Secondly, when the newness wears off on that new car or house, we continue to pay for it because it is our duty. When the job gets old, you go to work because it is your duty. When the Bible seems to have lost its appeal, you read it because it is your duty. When church doesn’t seem exciting anymore, you still go because it is your duty.

Listen to a wise prophet of old, Ecclesiastes 12:13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Then by doing our duty, God in His mercy and grace will restore that joy to us. David said in Psalms 51:12, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation.”
