Controlling what we say

0

Have you ever felt that you should not say something, and you said it anyway? I have had that happen to me and the words had hardly left my mouth before I knew I should not have said that. In the instant I had said what I should not have said, I knew I was wrong.

While growing up I heard over and over again: “If you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything at all.” Those things we say that shouldn’t be said are the things that DO NOT encourage anyone or improve the situation.

James 1:19 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath.”

I found out a long time ago that I learn much more when I am listening than I do when I’m talking.

James goes on to say in James 1:26, “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this one’s religion is useless.”

This explains how people can get on social media, have an uncontrolled thought, and say the worst things about others. We have an epidemic of hurtful things that are being said.

James 3:6, “The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.”

James 3:10, “Out of the same mouth proceed blessings and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

Our world would be a much better place if we would think before we speak. If we do not control what we say, we are being deceived. Saying the wrong thing is so powerful that it will defile our whole body and sets our future on fire by the fires of hell. By our words we are choosing whether we live in blessings or curses. Who wants to be deceived, defiled, experience the fires of hell, and live under a curse?

So much for another saying I grew up with: “Sticks and stones my break my bones but words will never hurt me.”

These are the essentials of life that we learn at the Gathering Place every Wednesday evening at 7 and Sunday morning at 9:30 and 10:30. Come and experience these things with us.
