Guilt will disappear when sin is confessed

0

To know you are guilty of sin is wisdom. To live with that knowledge and do nothing about it is unwise and produces torturous guilt. Guilt leads to depression and depression sometimes leads to suicide. It is dangerous to leave it neglected. The only way guilt will disappear is when sin is confessed, and assurance of forgiveness is received.

1 John 1:8-9, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceived ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

What God forgives He forgets but with us it’s not so easy. It sometimes takes a while to sink in that we are free from condemnation and have been made clean from our sin.

Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.”

Others may proclaim us guilty but the one who counts has set us free.

A guilt trip is good if it produces repentance toward God. It is only natural to feel guilty when we have done wrong. You can’t do bad and feel good about it. God uses guilty feelings to bring us to the knowledge of our need of Him. If you feel guilty, that is good. When you sin and don’t feel guilty about it, you have hardened your conscience and drowned out God.

God never intended for us to live in a guilty state. Give it all to Jesus and we shall be free indeed.
