Problems can be avoided with recognition

There are enough problems in our lives without asking for more. Romans 12:18, “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceable with all men.” The Word of God encourages us to be problem solvers, not troublemakers.

If you knew your car was going to blow up, would you drive it anywhere? Do you know when you’re going to blow your cool? If you do, can you avoid it? I believe so. There are times in our lives that we know are dangerous. Problems can be avoided if we recognize the potential to have one. We can keep from falling off the edge if we stay away from the edge.

The most problems occur at certain times. Let’s look at them and avoid the consequences of being unprepared. Graduation from high school can be torturous for some. The inability to decide which way to go, breaking away from forced routine, and living up to the expectations of others. All of this added pressure causes many to create problems that may last a lifetime. Avoid quick decisions. Be slow to acquire things. Don’t go in debt for that which is not necessary or doesn’t appreciate in value. Listen to those who want to and can help you.

Getting married is supposed to be a happy and exciting time, but it also provides problems of a different sort. In-laws, awareness of your mate’s needs and the household budget.

Most marriage counselors would tell you money is the number one problem in marriages. If you know it’s going to be a problem, set a policy and live by it. Don’t spend money you don’t have. Learn to share and care instead of getting snared in your created problems.

Starting a family has been known to disrupt more than a few marriages. That cute little baby has left hubby neglected and mommy worn out. It is a problem to be avoided by knowing it’s coming. As the little one grows it doesn’t get any easier. Rules, discipline, homework, ball games, bedtime, and then the teen years. Sounds exciting doesn’t it? Don’t follow the illusion, just because you love each other there will be no problem. Keep your family protected by building fences of policy already given in God’s Word. Be prepared for that family, don’t play it by ear, study the notes.

Moving to a new community or a new job or anything which disrupts our good habits. The devil loves it when we get too busy for God. We stop reading the Bible and forget to pray. We might as well hang a sign on us saying “Asking for trouble.” God will allow us to make wrong decisions if we are not seeking Him first.

We avoid problems by realizing the dangerous areas of life and by not getting too busy for God. It’s good to know how to handle problems, but better to avoid them.
