Washington Fire Department reports

The Washington Fire Department recently responded to the following:

JAN. 29

GAS MAIN STRUCK: 9:04 a.m., 1550 Robinson Road – Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting an underground gas main struck. FD found Vectren on scene and an evacuated area around the dig site at the time of arrival. FD established a safe area, controlled traffic and stood-by as crews from Vectren shut off the gas supply near the roadway. Control of the scene was turned over to representatives from Vectren.

JAN. 26

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT: 3:37 p.m., N. North Street – Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a two vehicle accident. FD found both vehicles upright, on all four wheels, off the roadway on the east sidewalk and both facing southeast. FD confirmed there was no entrapment, created a safe working area, checked both vehicles for safety and assisted the Washington Police Department with traffic control.

SMOKE DETECTORS ACTIVATED: 3 p.m., 127 S. North Street, Carnegie Public Library – Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting multiple smoke detectors activated. FD did not find any smoke or fire at the time of arrival and was informed by staff of a false alarm, that service was being done on the system. FD spoke with the service technician and was informed that only one portion of the system was put on test.

REPORT OF FIRE: 10:44 a.m., 3966 U.S. 62 – Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a chimney fire. FD found normal smoke conditions exhausting from the chimney at the time of arrival. FD made contact with the homeowner who stated there was no problem inside, that the fireplace was operating normally. FD advised to call back if there is any change or a problem later.

JAN. 23

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT: 1:48 p.m., Grace Street – Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a two-vehicle accident. FD found both vehicles upright and on all four wheels, both facing northwest and off the roadway with no visible smoke or fire at the time of arrival. FD confirmed with officers from the Washington Police Department there was entrapment and checked both vehicles for safety. FD created a safe work zone and assisted other agencies on the scene.
