Jacobson wins annual MTMS Spelling Bee

Miami Trace Middle School recently held its 46th-annual Spelling Bee with around two dozen participants at various grade levels.

The winner of the event was Adrienne Jacobson and the runner-up was Anna Eggleton, Secondary Curriculum Director at Miami Trace and Spelling Bee Coordinator Katie Abbott confirmed Thursday.

“It was a very competitive spelling bee, and all our students were well prepared,” Abbott said. “It took 35 rounds to name a champion. Many thanks to our students, parents, and Spelling Bee Coach for their time spent studying and practicing.”

Participants included students from all three grade levels with sixth grade having seven participants, eighth grade having two participants and seventh grade making up 15 participants.

These participants were: sixth graders Alyvis Atkinson, Emily Keaton, Rhiley Keaton, Emma McCullah, Anthony Shipley, Kyeh Stickel and Brenne Sword; seventh graders Ellison DaRif, Isabelle DeBruin, Anna Eggleton, Emma Eggleton, Morgan Elliott, Chloe Gardner, Graces Green, Lilly Hamilton, Ray Hammond, River Havens, Adrienne Jacobson, Abigail Noble, Brianna Parker, Contesse Thomas and Adam Throckmorton; and eighth graders Gavin Baughn and Abrielle Schaeffer.

“We appreciate the cooperation of all spellers and their parents/guardians in order to conduct this year’s Spelling Bee,” Miami Trace Superintendent Kim Pittser said. “Mrs. Abbott and the Middle School Staff Members did well in applying our safety protocols and communicating necessities to everyone. These times continue to be challenging for us in balancing the need for in-person teaching/learning and extra curricular opportunities with the health and safety of all persons. We remain appreciative of the support and understanding.”
