Fayette County Retired Teachers Association recognized for 50 years of service

State Representative Bob Peterson was a special guest at the Oct. 4 meeting of the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association.

Peterson presented the local chapter with a Senate resolution of recognition for their 50th anniversary. Chapter president Susan Stuckey read an article reporting on the first meeting of the local organization 50 years ago. The article had been located by member Don Moore.

Association member Lauran Perrill presented one of her programs on the life of Abraham Lincoln. It was a very informative program.

The group received a thank you note for their contributions to the backpack program at The Well at Sunnyside to help begin the school year.

Several announcements of upcoming events were made. Carolyn Essman announced an upcoming Master Gardener training program. Alice Craig promoted the Octoberfest to be held at St. Colman Church. Dick Glass announced the Dec. 2 holiday concert with the Fayette County Band and Choral Society and the Dec. 9 sing-a-long with the Choral Society. Both of those events will be held at the historic Washington Auditorium.

The Banana Express committee encouraged members to bring Christmas cards and toy donations for The Well to the December meeting.

The next meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 6 at Grace United Methodist Church at 12 p.m. Social hour will begin at 11 a.m. They will be conducting their annual Banana Express visitations to the care centers in Washington C.H. Entertainment will be holiday carols.
