ATHENS — The Miami Trace girls played j-v and varsity soccer matches at Athens on Saturday, Aug. 25.

The varsity match ended in a 0-0 tie.

Athens won the j-v match, 7-0.

The varsity game was hard-fought on both sides, Miami Trace head coach Caitlin Franics explained.

“The first half was fairly equal in terms of possession, however Athens came out very strong in the second half and out-shot us with eight attempts on the goal while we only had four,” Francis said. “I was very proud of how our defense stepped up and held them at bay keeping us in the game in the second half.”

Khenadi Grubb was in the goal for Miami Trace and had 7 saves. Miami Trace next plays on Tuesday at Chillicothe.

In the j-v game, Athens led 6-0 at the half.

“We played much better in the second half allowing only one additional goal,” Francis said. “This was our first j-v match of the season and it was a huge learning experience for the girls. We can take a lot from this match as we move forward.”

The Miami Trace j-v girls team plays again on Wednesday at North Adams.
