A Washington C.H. woman was charged with abandoning an animal this week after a Fayette Regional Humane Society (FRHS) agent and a Washington C.H. Police Department officer responded to a North Fayette Street apartment on a report of a deceased rabbit inside.
Sgt. Jeff Funari was the first to arrive Tuesday evening and reportedly located the deceased rabbit in a cage. Funari notified FRHS humane agent Brad Adams regarding the incident.
Julie R. Ross, 40, was charged with abandoning animals and prohibitions concerning companion animals, each a second-degree misdemeanor charge. Ross is scheduled to be arraigned in Washington Municipal Court on Wednesday.
“I will never understand the thought process of it being okay to leave an animal behind,” said Adams. “There was no food or water in the cage, and the body was in a decomposing state.”
