Panther wrestlers win Regional team title

SPRINGFIELD — The Miami Trace Panthers wrestling team will be going to State for the second year in a row in the team tournament.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, the Panthers visited Springfield Northwestern High School to compete, along with the host school, Wapakoneta and Urbana.

Miami Trace defeated Springfield Northwestern, 41-30 and Wapakoneta beat Urbana, 45-28.

In the finals, the Panthers edged out Wapakoneta, 39-36.

Against Northwestern, the Panthers won nine of the 14 weight classes.

At 113 pounds, Graham Carson pinned William Bailey in 33 seconds.

Mcale Callahan won a major decision at 126 pounds over Evan Davis, 13-0.

At 132 pounds, Wes Gandee took a 3-1 decision over Devin Current.

Jotham Lewis won at 152 pounds over Nathan Dewey, 11-8.

Jacob Tinkler decisioned Brendan Hartsell at 170, 6-0.

Jack Anders won a major decision over Ryan Breakall at 195 pounds, 9-0.

Storm Duffy (120), Luke Henry (182) and Dalton Bartley (220) won their matches by forfeit.

In the Region 16 championship, Gandee earned a pin at 132 pounds over Bradley Hicks in 37 seconds.

Tinkler won a 10-5 decision against Koleman Brown at 170 pounds.

Anders pinned Cooper Tawalsky at 182 pounds in 31 seconds.

Carson, Duffy, Jaymon Flaugher (145) and Lewis won their respective matches by forfeit.

State tournament is Feb. 11
