The Fayette County Family YMCA is taking registrations for the 2017 Flag Football Season.

Registrations are being accepted at the YMCA through Aug. 28 and information can be found at faycoymca.org.

Flag football is a fun, safe way to learn the rules and fundamentals of football. Rookies ages 3-5 will learn the basics of the game with parent participation welcome. Kids in grades K-4 will be put onto teams based on grade. Games are played on a 70-yard field, including two 10-yard end zones. The league will utilize NFL Flag rules. Volunteer coaches are needed to assist with the program, under the direction of David Bakenhaster, YMCA Youth Sports Coordinator.

YMCA youth sports are open to anyone in the community and are free with a family or single parent family membership. A reversible jersey that can be used for any YMCA youth sport may be purchased at the Y. Scholarship assistance is available for YMCA membership and programs for those who qualify thanks to the support of donors to the YMCA Annual Community Support Campaign.

All outdoor YMCA youth sports are played on 18 acres of athletic field space on the property surrounding the YMCA. Fayette County Youth Soccer will also be utilizing the fields this fall. These fields have been developed over the last three years thanks to numerous donations of equipment, volunteer hours and money. The construction of a shelter house at the fields is nearly complete thanks to grant funds.

The Fayette County Family YMCA will be celebrating 10 years of service in the facility on Civic Drive in October. The YMCA has also operated the YMCA Kid’s World of Learning Child Care Center at Sugar Creek for 17 years. The YMCA is a 501c3 non-profit organization which strengthens the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
