The Fayette County Farmers’ Market is an inviting space for children of all ages. Several of the vendors’ children are at the market every week, and many of the regular market attendees bring their children/grandchildren/related young ones to what must be seen as a “special outing.”
Children sometimes have their own shopping baskets, want to sample, and often ask the most interesting questions. Last week an elementary-aged young man was deeply curious about how the honey is put into honey sticks. A young lady, about 6 years of age, is deeply interested in vegetable plants and uses her weekly market tokens for a small plant. It is not at all uncommon to hear parents asking their children about their opinions about what produce or baked good purchases might be made.
Children’s activities are a part of every Saturday market. Children are invited to stop by the Day/Walters/Bick booth for a weekly activity. This Saturday, sidewalk chalk drawing is featured, and, as always, prizes are available to children who participate. Young and “older” alike are invited to “guess the number of cotton balls in the jar” with the closest guess winning a $20 gift basket of baked goods on July 1 (just in time for July 4 celebrations).
The Market is open every Saturday morning from 8:30 to noon and is located in the municipal parking lot on the corner of South Main and East East streets in Washington C.H. SNAP EBT food benefit cards, Senior Farm Market coupons and credit/debit cards are accepted—stop by the Jones Farm Fresh Produce for assistance. Those using the SNAP EBT card receive matching dollar VeggieSNAP tokens, $1 for $1 up to $10 EVERY market day! These VeggieSNAP tokens may then be used to purchase fresh produce.
The following list contains the names and products of the vendors that expect to set up for the Saturday Market. Other vendors may participate as well.
Edwin’s Donut Truck (Richard Miller): Sourdough donuts and coffee.
Engedi (Beth Day, Alana Walters, Janet Bick): Assorted home baked goods (cinnamon rolls, bread, yeast rolls, cookies, pies, brownies, cobblers, whoopie pies,small specialty bread), Icees, all NATURAL, chemical free soap, and side walk chalk drawing and prizes for children. Special guessing game contest, to win $20 basket of baked goods on July 1st!
Forgotten Way Farms (Cathy Ludi): DoTERRA essential oils, homemade soap, laundry detergent concentrate, bath salts and bombs, balms, wooded decor, and homemade organic vanilla extract.
Greens & Greenery (Katrina Bush): Farm grown,chemical free seasonal produce (kale, chard, beets, parsley), garden vegetable and herb plants (including lavender, onion and garlic chives, penny royal, lemon verbena, basil, echinacea), and perennial flowers. Farm honey products — Walnut Baklava and peanut butter cookies.
Jones Farm Fresh Produce (Jon & Taylor Jones): Strawberries, cabbage, candy onions, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, chicken breast, wings, pork chops, sweet Italian links, maple breakfast links, sausage patties, ground pork and eggs.
Keypoint Farm (Nevin Stauffer & family): Seasonal produce including beets, cabbage and tomatoes.
King Farms (Jeff and Sandi King): Fresh, seasonal produce (broccoli, red and Yukon potatoes, spinach) as well as homemade iced sugar cookies and homemade fruit pies.
Persinger Produce and Cottage Foods (David Persinger and Julie Mosny): Pies, cinni mini’s pecan sticky buns, cinnamon rolls and local raw honey.
This and That (Mary Ford): J&P candles and tarts, garden and home crafts (goose dresses, coasters, mug rugs, aprons, OSU items, jewelry), baked goods (apple butter bread, PB fudge).
Wood by DW (Debbie Welch): Wood primitives and sewn kitchen crafts.
Your Other Mother’s Kitchen (Don & Sara Creamer): Artisan Breads, Whole Wheat Brownie Tarts, and Bran Muffin Tops.
B.Y.E Gardens (Brian & Elaine Yoder): Cinnamon rolls, breads, cookies, homegrown popcorn and cold drinks.
By Thy Hand (Mark & Lori Chrisman): Angel food cakes, pies, assorted breads, croutons, snickerdoodles, seasoning & dip mixes, recycled pallet crates & boxes
Chilcote Farm (Bruce & Marlene Chilcote): Spring honey, cookies, and sheet cakes.
Dale’s Crafts (Dale Butler): rustic benches, red, white, & blue benches, swinging chair, Uncle Sam, serving trays, outdoor games (washer toss, corn hole bags and boards, yard yahtzee), Adirondack chair.
D.J.’s Farm (Dennis Anschutz): Baked goods and seasonal produce.
