At 1 p.m. on Monday, a Memorial Day ceremony was held at Highlawn Cemetery on State Route 22. The master of ceremonies was Fayette County Honor Guard member David Frederick.

The speaker for this ceremony was Honor Guard member Ed Fisher, who offered remembrances for this solemn day and words of hope for the future, followed by a prayer. Frederick asked those attending to join him in singing “God Bless America.”

The Fayette County Honor Guard, under the Command of Bill Footy, offered a 21-gun salute to honor those who gave all to ensure our freedoms as U.S. citizens. Honor Guard members Jim Bishop and Zeke Zastrow offered TAPS to close the ceremony and also played one verse of “Amazing Grace.”

Upon leaving Highlawn, a few Honor Guard members traveled to VFW Post 3762 to place a memorial wreath on the memorial at the corner of Veteran’s Way and Temple Street.
