Miami Trace/Great Oaks successful at State FFA Convention

On May 4 and May 5, the Miami Trace FFA Chapter, a satellite program of Great Oaks Career Campuses, attended the State FFA Convention held at the Ohio State Expo Center.

The chapter attended convention sessions and listened to four guest speakers: Amberley Snyder, Matt Rush, Lamarr Womble, and Victoria Harris, National FFA secretary. These speakers entertained the crowd and gave inspiring messages that helped improve members’ leadership skills.

Miami Trace excelled this year in state career development events, state degrees and proficiency awards. There were four teams place within the top five in the state in career development events this year. These teams include the agronomy team (third), nature interpretation team (third), advanced Parliamentary Procedure (third), and the middle school agronomy team (first).

The nine state degree recipients were BJ Anders, Macy Detty, Garrett Hagler, Rebecca Heckathorn, Kendal May, Abbygail Pitstick, Kasi Payton, Charlie Milstead and Quinton Waits. Proficiency award winner recipients were:

Todd Peterson – first in grain production entrepreneurship, as well as second in fiber crop and oil production;

Kameron Rinehart – second in home and community development, as well as second in accounting;

Garrett Hagler – third in beef production; and

Quinton Waits – fourth in veterinary science.

Other awards included officers who received Gold Star ratings on their officer books. Abbygail Pitstick and Madison Wallace received the reporter’s book gold pin, Cole Karnes and Garrett Hagler received the treasurer’s book gold pin, and Clare Sollars received the secretary’s book gold pin.

As a chapter Miami Trace received a gold rating in the state, and received recognition as a Top 10 chapter in the state. The Miami Trace FFA Chapter would like to congratulate all members for their hard work over the past year!

Middle school FFA members Graham Carson and Lahni Stachler received first place in the State Agronomy CDE.
