YMCA ‘Color Run’ coming May 20

The Fayette County Family YMCA, with support of Fayette County Travel & Tourism, will host the second-annual Color Run on May 20 as part of healthy living initiatives. The event will start at the city reservoir by the YMCA at 10 a.m.

The YMCA is encouraging families and people of all fitness levels to participate by offering a family discount. There is a $20 pre-registration fee while additional family members in the same household can register for $18 each. Online registration is available at faycoymca.org or through the Fayette County Family YMCA’s mobile app. Participants can also pre-register at the YMCA on the morning of each event.

All participants meeting the pre-registration deadline May 4 will receive “swag.” Color run swag includes an event t-shirt, sunglasses, and color dust to throw.

Color runs have become popular the last several years. Participants run or walk through colorful stations around the reservoir up to three times where colorful food-grade cornstarch transforms them into a vibrant rainbow.

Not a runner? Not a problem! This event is about having fun as you make your way to the finish line, not about how fast you can go. Participants are encouraged to where eye covering to keep the color out of their eyes.

The city reservoir is just over one-mile around on a blacktop path. It provides a year-around setting for walkers and runners.

All proceeds from these events will help the YMCA serve people throughout the county through the Strong Kids Scholarship program. These funds help subsidize youth programs and new program initiatives as well as provide membership and program assistance for individuals and families with documented inability to pay the published fees.

The Fayette County Family YMCA will be celebrating its 10th year in the facility on Civic Drive in October. The YMCA serves over 6,200 people in the region each year through programs and services emphasizing youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA is a 501c3 non-profit organization serving over 6,000 people annually.
