Representative from the AG’s office speaks at FCRTA

Danielle Murphy from the Ohio Attorney General’s office was the guest speaker at the April meeting of the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association.

She outlined the responsibilities of the AG’s office which include operating the police officer training academy, running the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and consumer protection. The focus of her presentation was consumer protection.

She listed the many types of ID theft which can occur and ways to cut down on the chances of being involved in it. She discussed precautions that can be taken to safeguard your identity online. She mentioned several specific scams which can be perpetrated on the phone, through the mail and online.

Membership booklets for the new year were distributed and members were reminded to pay dues if they have not already done so.

It was decided to give a $1,000 scholarship to a 2017 graduate from Miami Trace or Washington high schools who will major in education. This will be presented at the next meeting.

A request for volunteers to make cookies for the June 13 Bloodmobile at Grace United Methodist Church was announced.

The next meeting will be Thursday, June 1 at Grace United Methodist Church with social hour at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at 12 p.m.
