McClain edges Blue Lions, 10-9

The Washington Blue Lion varsity baseball team began the week with a home game against the McClain Tigers in SCOL play on a wonderful-weather Monday evening, April 10.

The back-and-forth affair took one extra inning, in which the Tigers edged the Blue Lions, 10-9.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.

The Blue Lions rallied with five runs in the bottom of the third.

Washington tacked on a single run in the fourth to make it 6-3 after four complete.

McClain scored two in the fifth to pull to within a run and scored two more in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead.

Washington tied the score with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

The game remained tied, 7-7 after seven full innings.

McClain put three on the board in the top of the eighth.

Washington responded but came up just shy with two runs in the home eighth for the 10-9 final.

Washington had nine runs on 14 hits and committed four errors.

McClain had 10 runs on 10 hits and they also had four errors.

Grant Patterson suffered the loss for the Blue Lions.

He pitched the seventh and eighth innings with three runs (earned) on two hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Jay Beatty pitched the eighth, allowing two runs on two hits with two walks to notch the win.

Dakota Pollock pitched one inning for the Tigers with two hits, no runs, one walk and one strikeout.

Jacob Easter started for McClain and pitched six innings. He allowed seven runs (two earned) on 10 hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Nick Barrett started for Washington and pitched the first six innings. He gave up eight hits and seven runs (five earned) with three walks and six strikeouts.

Brian Wilson was the game’s leading hitter for Washington, going 5 for 5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Jarett Patton went 3 for 5 for the Blue Lions, knocking in a run and scoring twice.

Griffin Shaw was 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI and Tyler Rood was 2 for 4.

For the Tigers, Beatty went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI.

Pollock went 2 for 3 with three runs and one RBI.

Washington will play at Miami Trace Wednesday at 5 p.m.
