Kittens rescued from single-vehicle accident

They were trapped in the car, surrounded by the sounds of diesel engines and flashing lights of first responders, four kittens on the way to an uncertain future.

The kittens, Thunder and his three siblings, were involved in a single-vehicle accident late Saturday as their owner was on the way to drop them off at the Fayette Humane Society, as the owner later told the humane officer.

The humane officer responded to a sheriff’s call after midnight and rescued the kittens after their owner was transported to the hospital. After the humane officer contacted the owner, a Madison County resident, on Monday morning to reclaim their kittens, the owner told the humane officer that they no longer wanted them.

According to humane officer Brad Adams, the kittens were very scared and shook up when he was removing them from the wire cage they were in at the scene of the accident.

“The sheriff deputies and firefighters were very helpful with getting the cage out of the vehicle and into a safe area. Fayette County has some of the best law enforcement and rescue personnel,” said Adams.

Thunder and his siblings, Lightening, Cloud, and Raine were examined and given their vaccinations by veterinary technician Danyel Bageant and adoption coordinator Bobbi Honicker.

“The kittens have recovered very well over the weekend and will be ready for adoption later this week after they are spayed and neutered,” said Bageant

The Fayette Humane Society is a non-profit (501(c)(3), volunteer organization that receives less than two percent of their support from governmental organizations and therefore must rely on donations, grants and fundraising to carry out their mission. The Humane Society is the only organization in Fayette County able to respond to calls about abused and neglected and domestic animals, 24-hours per day and seven days per week.
