WHS’ Garrison qualifies to Regional cc meet

RIO GRANDE — Washington High School sophomore Maddy Garrison placed ninth at the Division II District cross country meet Saturday at Rio Grande.

She ran a time of 20:51.0. With that placement, Garrison qualifies to the Regional cross country meet in Pickerington Saturday. The event is being held at Pickerington North High School.

Also for Washington, Kirsten List was 27th in a time of 22:13.5; Alexa Harris placed 52nd in 24:54.3 and Megan Rohrer was 54th in 25:06.5.

The Southeast District in Division II was divided into two races for girls and two for boys.

In the race Washington competed in, there were 69 girls taking part.

Athens won this District title with 37 placement points.

Sheridan was second with 43 points.

Emily Cass, a senior from Athens H.S., won in a time of 19:15.2.

McClain freshman Grace Savage placed 67th in a time of 31:39.9.

In the other Division II girls cross country race, with a field of 69 runners, Unioto won the team event with 36 placement points.

Junior Haley Wright of Unioto was first in a time of 19:05.1. Unioto senior Elena Knipp took second place in 19:33.8.

Hillsboro’s Reaghan Haines was 21st in 22:04.8. Also for Hillsboro, Lizzie Tamborski was 47th in 24:07.3; Caitlin Foley placed 51st in 24:48.1; Emily Young was 65th in 28:29.3.

On the boys’ side, there was one race with 82 contestants and another race with 85 runners taking part.

In one race, captured by Unioto, Washington placed 11th out of 12 teams with 316 placement points.

For the Blue Lions, sophomore Josh Trimmer was 54th in 20:07.0. Sophomore Chris Conger was 55th in 20:07.1.

Also for Washington, freshman Connor Lane was 58th in 20:15.6; junior Jacob Thomas was 74th in 21:39.7; sophomore Nick Geiler was 75th in 21:39.9; sophomore Levi Clay was 80th in 23:33.5 and freshman Collin George was 81st in 23:35.5.

Athens was second in this District race and Logan Elm was third. Westfall was seventh and Circleville placed 10th.

In the other Division II boys race, Sheridan dominated 11 other teams to win with 19 placement points.

Sheridan had five runners place in the top seven, including the first three finishers. For good measure, Sheridan also had runners place eighth and 12th.

Joey Palumbo won the race for Sheridan in a time of 16:13.4.

The first runner to cross the line for Miami Trace was freshman Ross Matthews, 58th in 19:48.3.

Panther freshman Nick Foody was 59th in 19:58.3.

Also for Miami Trace, freshman Jake Atwood was 62nd in 20:31.0; sophomore Jonathon Allen was 65th in 21:00.7; freshman Wyatt Cory was 72nd, in 22:13.1.

Miami Trace placed 11th out of 12 teams.

For Hillsboro, Micah Pinney was 44th in 19:12.9; Zach Middleton placed 48th in 19:28.2; Justin Scott was 60th in 19:59.8; Bailey Lucarello was 73rd in 22:15.1; Fred Green was 82nd in 32:14.6.

Hillsboro placed 10th in the team standings.

The McClain Tigers were 12th in the team results.

The top placer for McClain was Jacob Roeder, 74th in 23:14.9.

Also for McClain: Michael Ditmer, 76th, 23:31.3; Jacob Badgley, 77th, 23:47.6; Seth Cross, 78th, 23:49.3; Noah Scott, 79th, 23:55.7; Ryan Wilkin, 80th, 23:59.9; Kaleb Harper, 81st, 25:05.3.
