What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

It’s that cozy time of year again! I don’t know about you, but we here at the library love the fall season. Chilly days that just beg for a good book, pumpkin spice everything, and of course, Halloween!

If it is thrills and chills you seek, drop that DVD and pick up a book. A scary movie can’t compare to curling up with a spine-tingling book in the wee hours. It stays with you like nothing else. Even now, a year after having read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for the first time, I recall, unbidden, a vivid recollection of that awesome and tragic monster. The library has plenty of scary stories for you, the kids, or your campfires. And if you just can’t help yourself, we have plenty of scary movies too. Stop by! And don’t forget to check out our Spooktacular entryway; perfect for a Halloween photo-op!

Coming up, Carnegie Public Library in Washington Court House and Jeffersonville Library will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, for Columbus Day.

The Ohio Digital Library is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week! You can borrow free eBooks and audiobooks for your Kindle, NOOK, iPad, iPhone, Android or other device with just your library card! The Ohio Digital Library provides eBooks, digital magazines, digital audiobooks, and video. Featured collections include: “Giving Thanks”, books that focus on gratitude and the Thanksgiving season; “Boo! It’s Halloween”; and “Curl up with a Classic”. Each of these highlighted collections includes fiction and nonfiction books for adults and children, as well as video. Need help? Come to one of our e-Book Drop-in sessions! Bring your device, library card, and if using the Kindle or Kindle App, your Amazon username and password. We will get you started! Sessions are from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., on Wednesdays through October.

For kids: Thursdays in October, children in grades 1 and up can join us for Snack Fun with Sarah Sowell from the OSU Extension office. Play games and quizzes, and help Sarah make and eat fun and healthy snacks! As always, bring your little ones to the library’s weekly storytimes for books, stories, crafts, and play! Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., is Preschool Storytime for children 4 – 6 years old, and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., is Books & Blocks for children 1 – 3 years old. Siblings are welcome at either session.

In Jeffersonville: Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. Each week is a new theme! At 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, the branch will be hosting a Paw Patrol Party at Jeffersonville Branch. Registration required for this dog-gone good time!
