Cancer support foundation to hold benefit

The 16th-annual celebration of the Cancer Support and Resource Foundation (CSRF) will be held on Oct. 10 to raise funds for the group.

At the Deer Creek Lodge and Conference Center at 22300 State Park, Road 20 in Mt. Sterling, the CSRF will be hosting a benefit and dinner to raise money that goes toward the support of those suffering from cancer. The evening will include a three entree buffet and a performance by local band, “Dumbfounded,” which will entertain the crowds throughout the evening.

“This all began because after I had suffered through cancer I felt the Lord really weigh on my heart to do something for others suffering,” Karla Redding, vice president of CSRF said during an interview Tuesday. “I talked to a couple of my doctors and others who helped to organize the group. Thanks to all of those efforts and plenty of support from counties in the area, including Fayette, Madison and Clinton, that continue to provide financial relief to families struggling with this terrible disease.”

Besides a little bit of money for advertising, nearly 100 percent of the proceeds go to help pay for day to day items for someone struggling with cancer. Whether it is help with gas to make it to an appointment, help with groceries so the rest of the family can continue to thrive if one half of the income is gone because of a parent suffering, or if it is to help offset additional costs of a child hanging on to life because of cancer, the group is dedicated to help.

“There will be a small presentation during the event as well as an auction, silent auction, raffles and the band,” Redding said. “I really want the event to be upbeat and encouraging. It is to show those struggling that there are plenty of people who care. Even if only 100 people donated $1 a piece we have gone a long way to make a difference in the lives of these people. It can help to open up an avenue to allow them the help they need.”

The group will need all RSVPs by Oct. 5, with the $35 entry and meal costs needing to be paid by that time. Contact one of the board of director members to RSVP. The members include Dr. Thomas Anderson, CSRF president at [email protected] or 614-544-1930, Karla Redding, VP at [email protected] or (740) 313-7662, Sandy Williams, treasurer at [email protected] or (614) 306-5855, Rick Lentz, secretary at [email protected] or (614) 425-3311, Mikki Hunter- Smith at [email protected] or (740) 572-7011 and finally, Mark Miller, attorney at [email protected] or 330-806-8810.

“As long as we have money we will not turn someone away and we really appreciate all of the support we get for the local communities,” Redding said. “We hope to see you at the event.”
