Lady Lion tennis beats Unioto, falls to ‘Cane

CHILLICOTHE — On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team traveled to Chillicothe to take on the team from Unioto High School.

The match was moved indoors to the Chillicothe Racquet Club due to rain.

Both teams played their Sectional line-ups to prepare for the tournament on Tuesday, according to Washington head coach Mitch Augenstein.

The Washington varsity team defeated Unioto, 4-1.

That raised the Lady Lions’ record to 14-3 overall.

At first singles, Sydnie Hall lost to Sylvia Gray, 0-6, 0-6.

Jen Richards beat Eden Griesheminer at second singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Mackenzie Cress won at third singles, 6-1, 6-1 over Neysea Edwards.

At first doubles, Anna Nestor and Megan Downing beat Millie Simonson and Michelle Kerns, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8 in the tiebreaker).

Sierra Dawson and Maria Pickerill defeated Brianna McGuire and Macy Bridenbaugh at second doubles, 6-2, 6-2.

The Washington j-v played two pro-sets and won both.

At first doubles, Gretchen Milstead and Ashton Carr beat Monique Gonzalez and Sarah Spires, 8-2.

Brynne Frederick and Camryn Waldrop won at second doubles over Bree Morrow and Allie Montgomery, 8-0.

Washington will host Miami Trace Monday at 4 p.m.

Lady Lion tennis falls to Wilmington

Washington hosted Wilmington for possibly the final time on Monday, Sept. 26.

The Lady Lions lost what coach Mitch Augenstein described as a very close and hard-fought match, 3-2.

At first singles, Megan Downing defeated Katie Schroeder, 6-4, 6-2.

At second singles, Anna Nestor beat Sophie Reed, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Maria Pickerill lost at third singles to Brooklyn Nielson, 1-6, 0-6.

At first doubles, Sierra Dawson and Mackenzie Cress lost to Veronica Ilg and Emma Schroeder, 4-6, 5-7.

At second doubles, Wilmington’s Kalista Adkins and Emily Davis won by forfeit.

Washington is now 8-3 in the SCOL.

The Washington j-v team avenged its only loss of the year with a 2-1 win over Wilmington.

Washington’s j-v team is now 10-1 on the season.

At first singles, Sydnie Hall lost to Allie Kees, 2-8.

At first doubles, Gretchen Milstead and Brynne Frederick beat JoJo Stellar and Avery Vance, 8-5.

At second doubles, Camryn Waldrop and Jocelyn Trimmer defeated Holli Anderson and Ivy Stang, 8-1
