CHILLICOTHE — One day after the South Central Ohio League held its final boys golf tournament at Snow Hill Country Club, the Washington Blue Lions took part in the Division II Sectional tournament at the Jaycees course in Chillicothe.
The top five teams and top five individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the District tournament at Crown Hill Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Washington Blue Lion senior Kyler Mount shot a score of 81 to advance to next week’s District.
The Sectional medalist was sophomore Costa Coconis of Sheridan, who shot a 72.
Individuals also qualifying to the District are: William Levi Chapman of Meigs (79); Brad Walker of Westfall (81); Trevor Newkirk of McClain (82) and Cord Ebert of Logan Elm (83).
As a team, the Blue Lions placed ninth out of 14 with a team score of 369.
Griffin Shaw shot a 90; Tyler Rood, 95; Gabe Arazo, 103 and Brock Morris, 105.
Other scores for McClain: Preston Anderson, 98; Kobe Penwell, 101 and Zane Mustard, 114.
Sheridan won the Sectional with a team score of 323.
Other teams advancing to the District tournament are: New Lexington, 331; Unioto, 336; Fairfield Union, 339 and Zane Trace, 350.
Rounding out the field: Westfall, 6th, 355; Logan Elm, 7th, 355; Meigs, 8th, 367; Washington, 9th, 369; Circleville, 10th, 376; McClain, 11th, 395; Alexander, 12th, 428; Vinton County, 13th, 429; Nelsonville-York, 591.
Miami Trace, Hillsboro and Chillicothe are Division I in boys golf. They, along with Athens, Marietta, Warren, Jackson and Logan, will compete in the Division I Sectional Monday, Oct. 3 at Hocking Hills Golf Course near Logan.
