MT grad Ward pitches for Paints

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Chillicothe Paints (2-2), presented by Adena Health System, answered runs by the Terre Haute REX four times, but ultimately lost 7-5 Sunday evening at VA Memorial Stadium.

Terre Haute scored a run in the first, the Paints answered in the bottom of the first with two. The REX tied the game with a run in the second, the Paints scored to regain the lead in the bottom of the second. Terre Haute’s Michael Klein hit a solo home run in the third to tie the game at three, the Paints scored to regain the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the third. Still 4-3 headed to the seventh, Terre Haute plated a run on an error to once again tie the game, but the Paints agan answered in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-4.

The Rex scored two runs in the eighth and a run in the ninth to go up 7-5, the Paints were unable to answer a fifth time.

Daryin Lewis started the game as the pitcher and designated hitter. He allowed three runs on nine hits over six innings, walked two and struck two out. At the plate, he 3-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and reached base a fourth time after being hit by a pitch. He got a no decision.

Miami Trace High School graduate Brady Ward (0-1) took the loss for Chillicothe, allowing three runs on seven hits over two innings of work.

Terre Haute reliever Thomas Waning (1-1) earned the win after allowing one run on three hits.

The Paints will return home Thursday, when they host Butler at 7:05 p.m. on Thirsty Thursday.
