ATHENS — Miami Trace junior Seth Leach and sophomore Matt Fender competed in the Division II District tennis tournament at Ohio University Saturday, May 21.

They opened with a match against a team of seniors from Portsmouth West.

Leach and Fender had played this pair in the first round of Sectionals seeding, falling 4-6, 5-7.

On Saturday, Leach and Fender extended the duo of PWHS to three sets before losing, 3-6, 6-3, 5-7.

“We saved five match points on Matt’s serve at 4-5, winning it to go to 5-5,” Miami Trace coach Mitch Augenstein said. “Miami Trace boys haven’t been to Districts in six years, or more. I could not have been more proud of the guys. What a match.”
