Blue Lion tennis ends season in Sectional

The Washington Blue Lion tennis team competed in the Division II Sectional tournament earlier this week in Portsmouth.

In singles play, Ken Upthegrove went 2-1.

In his first match, he defeated Goetz of Athens, 6-4, 7-5.

In the second round, Upthegrove notched another win, 6-4, 6-3 over Shope of Valley High School.

Upthegrove lost to Nibert of Waverly, 4-6, 4-6. That match was for a spot in the District tournament.

Grant Mustain beat Oliver from Portsmouth West, 6-1, 6-1.

In his second match, Mustain fell to Carter from Portsmouth, 4-6, 1-6.

Jordan Behm won his first match, 6-1, 6-0 over Metzler of Gallia Academy, 6-1, 6-0.

Behm then defeated Pohl from Circleville, 6-2, 6-1.

In the match to determine qualifiers for the District, Behm lost to Radune of Jackson, 1-6, 2-6.

Both Blue Lion doubles teams suffered losses in the first round.

Madalyn Wayne and Max Schroder lost to Shugert and Fraley of Portsmouth, 2-6, 3-6.

Jakob Snyder and Brody Morris lost to Reynolds and Swords from Portsmouth West, 6-3, 1-6, 1-6.
