CHILLICOTHE — The Miami Trace softball team extended its winning streak to six in a row Friday with a 10-2 win in SCOL play at Chillicothe.

Miami Trace is now in second place in the SCOL with a record of 5-1. Clinton-Massie is undefeated on the season.

Maddie Mossbarger got the win for Miami Trace. She pitched seven innings with eight hits and two runs (both earned), one strikeout and no walks.

Olivia Ray pitched for Chillicothe, absorbing the loss. She pitched seven innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Miami Trace had four players with two or more hits.

Cassidy Lovett was 2 for 4 with a double and two rbi.

Ashley Campbell was 3 for 4, hitting her first varsity home run and scoring twice.

Brooke Henry went 3 for 3 with one rbi and Harmonee Napier was 2 for 4 with a run and one rbi.

Miami Trace jumped out with what proved to be all the runs they would need, scoring four in the first.

Lovett singled and stole second.

Campbell got a base hit, moving Lovett to third.

Lovett scored when Campbell stole second.

Alexis Schwartz hit a double that scored Campbell and Olivia Wolffe, who struck out, but made it to first on a passed ball.

Taylor Barrett walked and Henry singled, scoring Schwartz.

Barrett scored when Napier reached on an error.

In the second inning, Campbell hit her first career home run over the left-center field fence to make it 5-0.

The third was another scoring inning for Miami Trace.

Barrett singled and Henry walked. Tabby Landrum ran for Henry and Whitney Cockerill bunted, but Barrett was thrown out at third.

Napier followed with a single that scored Landrum.

Camp made it to first on a fielder’s choice.

Lovett hit a double that scored Napier and Camp.

In the top of the seventh, Barrett reached on an error and Henry moved her to third with another base hit.

Landrum came in to run for Henry and Cockerill drew a walk.

Napier singled, scoring Barrett with Cockerill going to third. When Napier stole second, Cockerill came in to score.

“Everything came together again,” Miami Trace head coach Terry Smith said. “Just the way we’ve been playing. Our defense is where I thought it would be at the beginning of the season. The hitting just continues with another 12 hits tonight. The girls hit the ball hard. People in the lineup are picking other people up when they need to.

“It was another good outing for Maddie tonight, as well,” Smith said.

Miami Trace (7-3 overall) is at Springfield Northeastern Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
