Hillsboro slips past Lady Lions, 5-4

The Washington Lady Blue Lion softball team hosted Hillsboro for an SCOL contest Wednesday, April 6.

Hillsboro won this rain-shortened affair, 5-4.

Hannah Breeden started and got the win in the circle. She pitched five innings with 10 hits, four runs (all earned), no walks and four strikeouts.

Cirea Strahler started and sustained the loss for Washington. She pitched four innings, allowing six hits and five runs (four earned) with four walks and one strikeout.

Kate Jude pitched one hitless, scoreless inning with one walk and three strikeouts.

Offensively for Washington, Madison Helterbrand was 2 for 3 with one run scored; Wendy Hawk went 2 for 3 with one run and one rbi and Brooklyn Wilson had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two.

S. Scott and K. Thornburgh each had two hits for Hillsboro.

Hillsboro scored two runs in the first, with the Lady Lions answering with one in their first turn at bat.

Hillsboro tacked on a run in the second, while Washington countered with a run in the third.

Hillsboro scored two in the fourth and Washington scored two in the fifth.

The Lady Lions’ game Thursday at Springfield Central Catholic has been cancelled. They will try and play today at home against Wilmington.

The Lady Lions are at McClain (Mitchell Park) Monday at 5 p.m.
