You couldn’t have enough blankets to keep warm in the stands Monday at Washington High School as the Blue Lions hosted East Clinton in a frigid SCOL match-up.

The Blue Lions won the game, 6-3.

Jarett Patton started for the Blue Lions and was the winning pitcher. He worked six innings with five hits and three runs (none earned), one walk and seven strikeouts.

Jordan Flowers pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the save. He walked one batter.

Washington had eight hits and committed five errors.

Aaron Greer was 2 for 3 with a double and one rbi.

Brian Wilson hit a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Caden Cluxton was 1 for 2 with two runs scored; Tim Robinson had one hit, one rbi and stole two bases.

East Clinton scored two runs in the first with the help of two Washington errors.

“I thought we were focused when we came in today,” Washington head coach Tyler Rhodus said. “Defensively, we either have it, or we don’t.”

The Blue Lions put two on the board in the second and two more in the third to take a 4-2 lead.

East Clinton scored a run in the top of the fourth, but it would be the last run of the day for the Astros.

The Blue Lions scored two in the fifth for what would be the final, 6-3.

“It was cold,” Rhodus said. “It was a tough day to stay focused. It was a tough day to play your best. I’m proud they got the job done today. We’re still getting better.”

Washington’s game Tuesday with London has been cancelled so the Red Raiders can make up a league game.

The Blue Lions are home on Wednesday to take on Hillsboro.

Hillsboro lost to Clinton-Massie Monday, 11-2.

Also in SCOL play Monday, Chillicothe beat McClain, 14-3 and Wilmington beat Miami Trace, 9-4.
