Shaw’s 3 RBIs help Red Sox beat Pirates, 6-2

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Travis Shaw hit a two-run homer and singled in a run, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 Wednesday.

Shaw has eight hits and two walks in 16 plate appearances. He is trying to earn playing time at first base in place of converted outfielder Hanley Ramirez.

Blake Swihart had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and Pablo Sandoval stopped an 0-for-11 skid with an RBI double.

Top Boston prospect Yoan Moncada was called up from minor league camp, started at second base and went 0 for 2 with a walk.

Red Sox starter Joe Kelly and gave up one run and three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh’s Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs and four hits in three innings.
