CHILLICOTHE — Less than 24 hours after winning a titanic struggle with the Washington Blue Lions, 60-58, the Miami Trace Panthers traveled down US 35 to Chillicothe to take on the No. 2 team in the State in Division II, the undefeated Unioto Shermans.

Unioto won this game, 88-55.

The game began with an explosion of scoring. Unioto tallied 39 points in the first quarter to 32 for Miami Trace.

One might have expected to see a drop off in scoring in the second quarter after the two teams combined for 71 points in the first eight minutes.

In something one rarely sees in high school basketball, both teams went scoreless in the second quarter for a 39-32 halftime total.

Unioto won the third quarter, 20-17 to take a 59-49 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Unioto outscored Miami Trace, 29-6 to win, 88-55.

Junior Blake Pittser led Miami Trace with 21 points.

Junior Tyrae Pettiford had 13 points and six rebounds for the Panthers.

For Unioto, Isaac Wheeler led the game with 28 points.

Brandon Kennedy had 18 points and Erique Hosley scored 11.

Miami Trace (now 12-8 on the season) has two SCOL make-up games remaining.

The first is Thursday at 4:45 p.m. against East Clinton and then Friday, also at 4:45 p.m., against Hillsboro. Both games are at Miami Trace.

The Panthers were seeded No. 3 in the Sectional tournament and will play the No. 6 seed, Waverly (10-8) Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. at Southeastern High School, just east of Chillicothe.

Unioto (19-0) is a No. 1 seed in the tournament. The Shermans will play the winner of the McClain/Gallia Academy game Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6:15 p.m. at Southeastern H.S.
