Panthers fall to Cavs, 62-49

CHILLICOTHE — The Miami Trace Panthers returned to SCOL action Tuesday with a game at Chillicothe.

The Cavaliers won the game, 62-49.

Chillicothe solidifies its hold on third place in the SCOL at 7-3. The Cavs are 8-8 overall.

Miami Trace falls to 4-5 in the SCOL (still in fourth place), 8-7 overall.

For the Panthers, junior Tyrae Pettiford led a trio in double figures with 15 points. He turned in a double-double with 14 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive boards.

Sophomore Darby Tyree scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds and junior DeAndre Pettiford had 12 points and eight rebounds.

For the Cavaliers, senior Kristian Boltenhouse was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points. He led Chillicothe with eight rebounds.

Sophomore Brandon Maughmer had 17 points and led the Cavs with six assists.

Junior Seth Barnes scored 10 for Chillicothe.

The Cavaliers led Miami Trace 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

At the half, the Cavs led the Panthers, 32-24.

Chillicothe outscored Miami Trace by two points in the third quarter (15-13) to take a 47-37 lead.

The Cavaliers won the fourth quarter, 15-12 to take the 62-49 victory.

The Cavs enjoyed a good night of shooting, hitting 25 of 47 field goal attempts for 53 percent.

Miami Trace hit 19 of 60 shots for 31 percent.

The Panthers out-rebounded Chillicothe, 38-28 with 23 offensive rebounds, good for 15 second chance points.

Miami Trace went 10 of 18 from the foul line for 55 percent, while Chillicothe made 8 of 14 from the stripe for 57 percent.

Elsewhere around the SCOL Tuesday, Washington improved to 9-1 in the SCOL with a 79-48 win at Hillsboro (3-7).

East Clinton picked up its first SCOL win of the season, 48-42 over McClain. The Astros are now 1-10 in the league, the Tigers fall to 2-8.

Wilmington defeated Clinton-Massie, 63-20 to move to 11-0 in the SCOL. The Falcons remain in fifth place in the SCOL at 3-6.

Miami Trace is back in action Friday hosting the McClain Tigers. The freshman game starts the action at 4:45 p.m.
