Miami Trace 7th, 8th grade girls basketball sweeps, Hillsboro, WCH; splits with Massie

The Miami Trace Junior High girls basketball teams hosted Hillsboro on Dec. 16.

The seventh grade team defeated Hillsboro, 38-32.

Olivia Fliehman with 19 points, and Keyairra Helton with 10 points and nine rebounds led the Panthers.

Gracee Stewart had five points and four rebounds. Addy Little and Ella Coe each chipped in two points,

In eighth grade action the Panthers came out strong taking the lead 14-3.

They came out dominating the second quarter to take a halftime lead of 26-5.

The third quarter still was going the Panthers’ way as they pulled out to a 35-12 lead. To finish out the game and take home a victory the girls added to the score board for a 45-22 win.

Shaylee McDonald led the attack with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Morgan Eggleton had 11 points and 3 rebounds. Kate Leach had 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Aubrey Schwartz had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Shania Villaruel, Aubrey McCoy and Gracie Bapst each chipped in two points.

On Monday, Dec. 21, the Panthers traveled in town to visit the Washington Lady Blue Lions.

In 7th grade action, WCH took a 6-5 lead, but the Panthers came battling back to take a 19-10 half-time lead.

In the third quarter, the teams had balanced scoring, each adding eight more points, but the Panthers held onto the lead, 27-18.

The fourth quarter was a battle. The Panthers held onto their lead taking home a 32-25 victory.

Olivia Fliehman led with 15 points. Gracee Stewart had eight points. Aubrey Wood had five. Addy Little and Piper Grooms chipped in two points.

In eighth grade action Washington took a 6-4 first quarter lead. The second quarter was a battle between the two, but the Panthers went ahead to take a halftime lead of 13-12.

The Panthers came out and put up 17 points to 7 points for Washington in the third quarter for a 30-19 lead. The Lions didn’t lay down and came back out fighting in the fourth, but the Panthers stayed on top for a 37-30 win.

Shaylee McDonald led all scorers with 24 points,7 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Morgan Eggleton had 9 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Shania Villaruel had a basket, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Kate Leach chipped in a basket. Aubrey Schwartz led the team in rebounds with ten and in assists with six.

On Jan. 4, the Panthers hosted Clinton-Massie.

The seventh grade girls came out with a 8-6 lead, but the Falcons started hitting their shots to take the lead at half of 16-10.

In the third quarter, the teams battled back and forth, but the Falcons were still holding on to the lead of 20-19. The Falcons held on for the win, 28-20.

Fliehman led with 11 points, Stewart with4, Wood with 3, and Helton with 2 points. The 7th grade is 2-3 overall.

It was an exciting back and forth 8th grade game.

After the first quarter all was tied 5-5. Massie took the lead 11-9 at halftime.The Panthers came out in the third to take a 16-15 lead and went on to post the victory, 22-19.

Aubrey Schwartz led the Panthers with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Shaylee McDonald had 7 points and 3 steals. Morgan Eggleton had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Shania Villaruel chipped in a free throw and 4 steals.

The girls are 4-1 overall and are back in action on Thursday at home vs. Wilmington.
