Lady Panthers softball defeats Unioto

CHILLICOTHE — The Miami Trace Lady Panthers varsity softball team traveled over into Ross County for a non-conference game with Unioto Tuesday, May 1.

Miami Trace won the game, 4-1.

Olivia Wolffe was the winning pitcher for Miami Trace.

She pitched seven innings with one run (unearned), two hits, 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Pinkerton took the loss in the circle for the Shermans. She pitched seven innings with six strikeouts, no walks, seven hits and two earned runs.

“The ladies played a good game tonight,” Miami Trace head coach Joe Henry said. “We played small ball a lot and it worked. Moving the girls around gave us opportunities to score.

“Once again, Wolffe pitched another good game that gave us a chance to win,” Henry said.

In the first inning for Miami Trace, Ashley Campbell singled and scored on a single by Wolffe.

In the top of the third, Campbell reached on an error and went to second on a ground out by Tabby Landrum.

Campbell stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

The fourth was another scoring inning for Miami Trace.

Maddie Mossbarger led off with a single and stole second.

Taylor Dawson sacrificed Mossbarger to third.

Kaylee Hauck hit a double that scored Mossbarger.

Unioto scored in the fourth with the help of two errors by Miami Trace.

In the sixth for Miami Trace, Hailey Gilpen hit a single and Piper Grooms was brought in as a pinch-runner.

Mossbarger had a sacrifice bunt to move Grooms to second.

Dawson had another sacrifice bunt and Krissy Ison hit a triple, plating Grooms for what would be the final tally, 4-1.

Miami Trace will open tournament play at Circleville Wednesday at 5 p.m.
