Lady Lion tennis drops pair of SCOL matches

The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team has had a couple of tough matches back-to-back in the South Central Ohio League.

On Thursday, Sept. 3, Washington hosted Clinton-Massie and lost, 3-2.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, Washington was back on the courts at Gardner Park, losing to Chillicothe, again by a score of 3-2.

Against Massie, at first singles, Megan Downing lost to Morghan Eades, 2-6, 4-6.

At second singles, Anna Nestor beat Anne Thompson, 6-0, 6-1.

Jen Richards lost at third singles to Kelly Deatherage, 0-6, 0-6.

Washington and Clinton-Massie split the two doubles matches.

At first doubles, Maria Pickerill and Sierra Dawson won in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over Emma Bailey and Claire Corruthers.

In the second doubles match, Mackenzie Cress and Gretchen Milstead lost to Jordan Bills and Hailey Clayborn, 2-6, 1-6.

Against the Lady Cavaliers last evening, Megan Downing lost to Bekah Ray in first singles, 1-6, 1-6.

Anna Nestor won the second singles court, 6-1, 6-1 over Carly McCloy.

Jen Richards lost to Madeline Digges at third singles, 0-6, 1-6.

At first doubles, Sierra Dawson and Maria Pickerill lost to Jera Copley and Brittany Harper, 4-6, 6-7 (5-7).

At second doubles, Gretchen Milstead and Mackenzie Cress beat Hannah Kessler and Xena Stearos, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. The third set was a super tiebreaker to 10, because the match had been decided, according to Washington coach Mitch Augenstein.

There was one j-v match on a hot Tuesday afternoon.

Washington’sAubry Leonard beat Heidi Arth, 8-4.

Washington will be at East Clinton on Thursday and back home against Circleville on Monday.
