The Miami Trace varsity volleyball team lost to the McClain Tigers after a hard-fought match.

The two teams played five games Thursday evening at the Miami Trace High School. Miami Trace was thwarted out of two games as the Tigers clawed their way to the final game. The tension rose in the room and yells bounced off the walls of the gymnasium.

The Tigers took an early lead in game five and things looked dire for the Lady Panthers. They were not finished though and brought the score in game five to a close 12-14. Despite their best efforts to keep the Tigers from finishing on top, the final point landed with a resounding roar of victory from McClain.

Game five finished Panthers 12, McClain 15.

The scores for the games were 25-19, 17-25, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-12.

“We continued trading the games back and fourth between our teams the whole match,” Mace said. “Both teams played very aggressive, but we started that last game just a little tentative, and dug ourselves a hole. We did some good things overall and had some break downs. For our team when we get really tight like that, the girls are trying to think too much still and make sure they are in the right place instead of playing the game. That will come with a little more experience and we are looking forward to playing them again later in the season.”

Clare Sollars led in aces with seven, Sam Ritenour led in kills with 11 and in blocks with two, one of which was assisted by Ashley Campbell.

The defeat gives Miami Trace a record of 2-2 in the SCOL, 2-6 overall. The team will host Clinton-Massie in their next game on Sept. 10. The j-v match begins at 5 p.m.
