Through a humid evening, the Miami Trace Boys soccer team fought a hard game against the McClain Tigers but could not prevail.

The game began Thursday at the Miami Trace High School at about 5 p.m. with the Tigers taking an early two-goal lead from player Cody Hardesty before nearly 10 minutes into the first half. The Panthers began to rally and held them until the Tigers scored another goal before half time. The third goal was made by Tom Henry.

After returning for the second half, the Panthers had a great second wind, pushing back the Tigers and scoring two goals of their own. The first goal was made by Brett Lewis and the second, by Blake Pittser. The Tigers would not score again until about 13 minutes remained and Tiger Tyler Jackson rushed to bring the score to 4-2, which was the final score.

“We came off a little slower than we had hoped in the first half,” Miami Trace assistant coach Sean Sweeney said. “McClain was fortunate and scored early, but then brought it back about five minutes later to score again, really putting us in a hole. We came back for the second half with a lot more intensity and really played a lot better quality soccer, unfortunately tonight it wasn’t enough.”

Miami Trace, now 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the SCOL, will host Southeastern Saturday at 11 a.m.
