CHILLICOTHE — On a near picture-perfect Saturday, Sept. 16, the Frontier Athletic Conference held its first boys golf tournament at the Chillicothe Country Club.
Jackson won the tournament to post a record of 10-0. That, coupled with an 8-2 league mark during the regular season, vaulted the Ironmen past Miami Trace and into first place for the overall FAC championship.
Jackson shot a team total of 368 at the conference meet.
Miami Trace was second with a 387. The Panthers finish in second place in the FAC with a final record of 17-3.
McClain was third at the tournament with a 400. McClain takes third overall in the conference with a record of 13-7.
Chillicothe was fourth at the tournament with a 418. The Cavaliers were 0-10 during the conference matches during the regular season, so the Cavs bump up from sixth to finish fifth overall at 4-16.
The Blue Lions shot a team total of 427 to place fifth in the tournament. Washington places fourth overall in the conference at 6-14.
Hillsboro was sixth at the conference tournament with a 430. The Indians finished 2-18 overall, for sixth place.
McClain’s Trevor Newkirk shot an 84 Saturday. He finished the season as the top point-recipient to earn First Team, All-FAC honors. He is the FAC Golfer of the Year.
Kole Weaver and Ethan Mercer of Jackson finished second and third, respectively, in the FAC for First Team, All-FAC recognition.
Hillsboro’s Will Kiefer, Miami Trace’s Tyler Eggleton, McClain’s Kobe Penwell and Chillicothe’s Daniel Haller round out the First Team, All-FAC golfers for 2017.
At the conference meet, for Miami Trace, Hayden Walters shot a 97. Eggleton had a score of 98.
Cameron Carter shot a 92; Heath Cockerill shot a 100; Trenton Crawford, 105 and Drew Batson shot a 115.
For the Blue Lions, Brock Morris shot a 99; Tyler Rood had a score of 100; Gabe Arazo shot a 108.
Brice Cartwright had a 118 and Ty Rose had a 120.
