Lady Panther tennis falls to Chillicothe

CHILLICOTHE — The Miami Trace Lady Panthers tennis team visited Chillicothe Thursday for a Frontier Athletic Conference match against the final-ever SCOL champion Cavaliers.

Chillicothe won the match, four courts to one.

At first singles, Miami Trace’s Cassie VanDyke lost to Natalie Drotleff, 0-6, 0-6.

Anita Pursell fell to Brittany Harper at second singles, 3-6, 3-6.

Bayley Thompson lost to Hannah Kessler at third singles, 4-6, 3-6.

At first doubles, Cameron Bucher and Haiven Pepper lost to Ali Gossman and Heidi Arth, 2-6, 1-6.

Miami Trace picked up the win at second doubles as Jackie Wisecup and Beth Hogsett defeated Chillicothe’s pair (opponent’s names were not available), 6-1, 6-0.

In j-v play, Miami Trace’s Kyleigh Slone beat Liliauna Carver, 6-1.

Miami Trace’s Savannah Wisecup also played Carver and fell, 0-6.

“Hopefully we’ll get them at home (in the return match set for Sept. 21),” Miami Trace head coach Kim Schirtzinger said. “Last year we won three games in our match, this year we won 28, (which shows) great improvement.”

Miami Trace plays at Wilmington in a tournament Saturday. They will play at Gardner Park against the Lady Lions of Washington High School Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
