The Washington Lady Blue Lion track team placed second at the Division II Southeast District meet that concluded Saturday at Washington High School.
Paced by an outstanding performance by freshman Rayana Burns, Washington scored 73.5 points.
Unioto won the meet with 85 points.
Burns won the District title in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes and placed second in the high jump, scoring 38 points for her team.
Miami Trace was eighth with 43 points and McClain was 10th with 40 points.
On the boys’ side, Miami Trace placed third with 70.25 points.
Waverly won the Division II District title with 90.25 points. Zane Trace was third with 72 points.
The Blue Lions were ninth with 43 points.
McClain placed eighth with 48 points.
“We had a lot of (personal best results),” Miami Trace head coach Brent Noes said. “It was an outstanding effort by Macy Creamer in the 300 hurdles. She set a new school record in the process, beating her own previous school record that she set earlier in the year by over one second.
“She had a big day today, competing in four events for us,” Noes said. “She placed in all four of them.
“Our girls 4 x 2 ran their best time of the year,” Noes said. “Katie Seyfang placed second in the discus today, so, she’s going to Regionals in both the shot and discus, taking second in both.
“Kylie Pettit set P.R.’s (personal bests) in the 1600 and 3200 today,” Noes said. “Aubrey McCoy set a P.R. in the 800 today, and she placed. Our distance girls are both freshmen and they did an outstanding job.
“Sayler Preston finished seventh in the pole vault, which was exciting for a freshman to stand on the podium at this level,” Noes said. “And Elizabeth Kratzer had a good day, as well.
“Abby Arledge ran right at her P.R. in the 400,” Noes said. “On the girls’ side, overall it was a great effort, with two girls moving on to the Regionals.”
“Over Tuesday and today, our athletes competed extremely well,” Washington head coach Louis Reid said. “We have a very young group. We only had one senior who was able to compete: Jerrica Hites. Kynzie Osborne unfortunately was injured earlier in the season and was not able to finish it out.
“We’ve had a phenomenal year,” Reid said. “I was really proud of the effort our girls gave. Rayana Burns had a great day. She won three events and qualified to Regionals in four.
“Maddy Garrison qualified in two events, the 800 and the 1600,” Reid said. “Jaelyn Mason qualified to the Regional in the pole vault.
“We had a lot of places where we were close,” Reid said. “Our 4 x 4 placed fifth; Savanna Davis was close in the high jump. Taylor Smith was fifth in the shot put. We had a lot of girls in the top eight. For a lot of our girls, it was their first time competing at the Districts.
“As a coach, I’m not disappointed in this at all,” Reid said. “Yeah, it was great to win two (District) titles in a row.”
Washington did see a long string of relays advancing to the Regionals end this season.
“I took over in 2004 and we didn’t get a relay to Regionals until 2006,” Reid said. That is a streak of 11 years in a row with a relay going to the Regionals.
“This is the first time we’ve had an individual go to Regionals in four events,” Reid said. “I’m really proud of all of the girls.”
Burns won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.17.
Burns won the 400-meter dash, the only contestant to run a sub-one minute lap of 58.32.
In the 200-meter dash, Burns won in 25.49.
Burns was second in the high jump with a height of 5’ 2”.
Shay Patty of McDermott Northwest was the District high jump champion at 5’ 4”.
Maddy Garrison of Washington was second in the 1600-meter run, qualifying to Regionals with a time of 5:23.35.
Alex Evans of Unioto won the 1600-meter title in 5:17.53. Evans won the 3200-meter run in 11:50.70.
Miami Trace’s Kylie Pettit was ninth in the 1600-meters 6:09.95. She was eighth in the 3200-meter run in 13:30.60.
Washington’s Alexa Harris was 12th in the 3200 in 16:01.02.
Washington’s Abigail Tackage placed 15th in the 1600 in 7:04.89.
Garrison is also a Regional qualifier in the 800-meter run, placing fourth in 2:30.30.
Bryce DeLong of Circleville won the 800-meter District in 2:23.29.
Miami Trace’s Aubrey McCoy placed seventh in 2:36.09.
Washington’s Haley Copas was 14th in 2:55.69.
Miami Trace’s Macy Creamer won the District title in the 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 47.47.
Ellie Ruby of Wheelersburg was a close second in 47.63.
Jaelyn Mason of Washington is a Regional qualifier after placing fourth in the pole vault at 9’ 0”.
Teammate Megan Downing tied for fifth at 9’ 0”.
Miami Trace’s Sayler Preston was seventh at 8’ 0” and Elizabeth Kratzer was 10th at 7’ 0”.
Miami Trace’s Katie Seyfang is going to the Regionals in both throwing events.
She was second in the shot put at 37’ 7”.
Seyfang was second in the discus throw at 128’ 4”.
Summer Travis of Piketon won the District shot put at 38’ 1 1/2”.
Autumn Mohan of Unioto won the District discus throw at 132’ 7”,.
Creamer was seventh in the long jump at 14’ 9 1/2”.
Washington’s Savanna Davis was ninth at 14’ 4 1/2”. Davis was seventh in the high jump at 4’ 8”.
Teammate Tabby Woods tied for 10th at 13’ 10 1/2”.
Miami Trace’s Abby Arledge was 15th at 13’ 3 3/4”.
Taylor Smith of Washington placed 21st in the discus throw at 75’ 11”.
Teammate Bethany Wilt was 23rd at 73’ 11”.
Miami Trace’s Gretchen Ivers was 24th at 70’ 10”.
Smith was fifth in the shot put at 34’ 1 1/4”.
Washington’s Shawna Conger was 10th at 31’ 2 1/2”.
Ivers was 17th at 27’ 11 1/2”.
Miami Trace’s Macey Stires was ninth in the high jump at 4’ 6”.
Teammate Tori Morrison placed in a tie for 10th at 4’ 6”
Creamer was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.07.
McClain’s Chayden Pitzer was the District champion in a time of 15.25.
Washington’s Raven Haithcock was 10th at 18.37. Teammate Hannah Patterson was 18th in 20.59 and Miami Trace’s Maddie Southward was 21st in 21.77.
Creamer was sixth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.98.
Patterson was 20th at 14.97 and Mackenzie Grafstrom of Miami Trace was 24th in 15.44.
Miami Trace’s 4 x 800-meter relay team of Aubrey McCoy, Kylie Pettit, Hazen Jacobs and Tori Evans placed seventh in 11:29.79.
Washington’s Alexa Harris, Haley Copas, Mckenna Garren and Kayla Welling placed 10th in 12:58.71.
Unioto won the District title in 10:34.11.
Circleville (10:36.38), Waverly (10:41.33) and Zane Trace (10:41.82) were the other Regional qualifiers.
In the 4 x 100-meter relay, Logan Elm edged McClain for first place by .04 of a second (51.21 to 51.25).
For McClain, those runners are Maddie Stegbauer, Hunter Scott, Ashley Hardesty and Chayden Pitzer.
Unioto was third and Zane Trace placed fourth to advance to the Regionals.
The same McClain quartet won the District in the 4 x 200-meter relay in a new District record time of 1:47.47. The previous record of 1:48.06 was set in 2015 by Washington’s Carleigh Chaffins, Morgan Harper, Kynzie Osborne and Holly Inskeep.
Westfall was second in 1:49.20; Unioto was third in 1:50.67 and Circleville placed fourth in 1:51.23.
Washington was seventh in 1:54.92. That team was comprised of Jaelyn Mason, Jerrica Hites, Tahja Pettiford and Tabby Woods.
Miami Trace was eighth in 1:56.71. Those relay runners were Emily Powell, Abby Arledge, Lilly Litteral and Olivia Flerchinger.
In the 4 x 400-meter relay, Washington placed fifth in 4:23.98. That team consisted of Maddy Garrison, Pettiford, Davis and Woods.
Miami Trace was 11th in 4:53.24. Those runners were Arledge, Krissy Ison, Anna Williams and Hazen Jacobs.
The Division II Regional track meet begins Thursday at 5 p.m. at Athens High School. It concludes on Saturday at AHS at 11:30 a.m.
