Blue Lion baseball beats New Lex

The Washington Blue Lion varsity baseball team had one final game prior to the tournament on Wednesday, May 10 when the Panthers of New Lexington High School traveled from Perry County.

Washington won the game, 11-3.

Nick Barrett started for the Blue Lions and pitched six innings, recording the win.

He allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Bailey Roberts pitched one inning. His line was all zeros.

Wycink took the loss for the Panthers. He pitched six innings with 10 hits and 11 runs (eight earned) with two walks and four strikeouts.

Eli Ruth and Ryan Schwartz led the Blue Lions, each with two hits.

Avery Wilson drove in two runs and Tyler Rood hit a double and drove in two.

The Blue Lions scored four in the second and four in the fourth.

Both teams scored three runs in the sixth.

“It was a total team effort and a nice win,” Washington head coach Tyler Rhodus said.

Washington will open tournament play at Fairfield Union today (Thursday) at 5 p.m.
