Lady Lion tennis splits SCOL matches

The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team is now 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in the South Central Ohio League after splitting a pair of league matches on Tuesday, Aug. 11 and Wednesday, Aug. 12.

At Clinton-Massie Tuesday, Washington beat the Falcons, 3-2.

Washington’s Megan Downing, a freshman, defeated senior Morgan Eades, 7-5, 6-4.

Junior Anna Nestor beat Massie sophomore Anne Thompson, 6-2, 6-2.

The Falcons’ Kelly Deatherage, a senior, defeated sophomore Mackenzie Cress, 6-2, 6-2.

At first doubles, Washington junior Sierra Dawson and sophomore Maria Pickerill beat senior Jordan Bills and freshman Hailey Chapborn, 6-4, 6-3.

Clinton-Massie’s Emma Bailey (a senior) and Claire Crutheis (a junior) topped junior Gretchen Milstead and freshman Jen Richards, 6-1, 6-3.

There were two j-v matches Tuesday, both won by Clinton-Massie

In singles, Kelly Deatherage beat sophomore Yui Kobiashi, 8-0 (pro-set).

Massie junior Amber Winemiller and sophomore Megan Wonderly beat a pair of sophomores for Washington, Aubry Leonard and Camryn Waldrop, 8-4.

Washington lost at Chillicothe Wednesday, 4-1.

At first singles, Bekah Ray beat Megan Downing, 6-2, 6-4.

Second singles had Carly McCloy defeating Anna Nestor, 6-4, 6-3.

The Cavs’ Madeline Digges won the third singles match, 6-0, 6-0 against Mackenzie Cress.

Chillicothe’s Jera Copley and Brittany Harper combined to win the first doubles court, 6-0, 6-3 over Sierra Dawson and Maria Pickerill.

Gretchen Milstead and Jen Richards rallied from one set down to help Washington avoid the shut out with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Hannah Kessler and Xeno Stearos.

In a j-v match, Washington’s Yui Kobiashi defeated Heidi Arth, 6-2, 6-1.
