The Miami Trace Little Panthers wrestlers recently advanced to the State finals as a team.
On Sunday, March 5, 2017, Miami trace coaches Kevin Axline and Ben Fondel took seven kids to the Central Regional State qualifier.
By day’s end, there were six solidifying their spot to the state finals.
Jake Maurer at 55 pounds placed second (6U) in Division I.
Will Enochs at 67 pounds placed second (7-8) losing a tough fought match in the finals in Division II.
Alex Utera at 77 pounds placed second (7-8) with an unexpected loss (first year, Division II).
Brennon Fuller at 68 pounds placed fifth in a very tough class (Division III).
Evan Colegrove at 95 pounds placed second in Division III.
In Division III at 62 pounds, Janson Smith lost some hard-fought matches and unfortunately did not place.
Axline and Fondel took their charges to the State finals March 18-19.
This does not include other regionals that other Miami Trace kids chose to go to. Others were not depicted but much deserving of appreciation, also to those who placed but were not mentioned nor pictured.
At the State meet, Alex Utera, a first-year wrestler, went 3-1 on the day, taking third place.
Jake Maurer went 1-3 at the State, placing eighth.
The other young wrestlers each went 0-2.
