MT 7th grade girls beat Hillsboro, fall to Lions

The Miami Trace seventh grade girls basketball teams split a pair of games played earlier this week.

On Monday, Jan. 23, Miami Trace beat Hillsboro, 26-25 and on Thursday, Jan. 26, the young Lady Panthers lost to Washington, 37-20.

The Miami Trace seventh grade girls are now 8-3 on the season.

“Hillsboro was one of the two teams that defeated us earlier in the year and the girls were excited to play them at home,” coach Tracy Fliehman said.

Lorelei King led Miami Trace with seven points.

Emma Pitstick scored six; Mallory Pavey scored five points and Jarya Hassell and Libby Aleshire both had four points

Miami Trace made 8 of 15 free throw attempts for 53 percent. Hillsboro was 9 of 18 from the line for 50 percent.

Against Washington, Miami Trace had a difficult time hitting its shots and struggled to take care of the basketball against a zone defense, Coach Fliehman said.

Washington won the game, 37-20.

Libby Aleshire led Miami Trace with nine points.

Jamie Runnels had four points, Emma Pitstick scored three, while Lorelei King and Jarya Hassell both added two points.

Miami Trace was 4 of 9 from the foul line for 44 percent.

Washington went 9 of 18 from the line for 50 percent.
